Students in 34J explred the character of three diensional shapes this morning. Many enjoyed labelling and describing the edges, vertices, apexes and faces of a range of objects. Others prefered the opportunity to use plasticine to mould and then cross section three dimensional shapes. Here is a glimpse through the window into our space lesson!
If you are wondering who the classy looking students in the playground are today you will notice that they are the Year 6 students! Many of them have adorned their Year 6 jumpers and shirts that celebrate their final year at primary school. They all look great and even stand a little taller in these special jumpers and shirts that mark this important transition time. Students in 34J and 34O plunged themselves into their integrated learning of story telling by reading The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan. After listening to this remarkable story and without seeing the beautiful images drawn by Shaun Tan, students drew the lost thing as they had pictured it. The imagination is indeed a powerful tool, just look at what some of them imagined!
Students from Years 5 and 6 created some amazing drawings as they studied the faces of older people. The artists are Mia (top left), Zach (top right), Jacob (bottom left) and Maya (bottom right). Their work demonstrated not only their fine motor drawing skills but highlighted their keen observational skills. Who knows what creative works we'll all be seeing in the Art Exhibition this year!
Students in Years 3 and 4 joined with the Multiage class to introduce philosophical circles. Craig, a student of philosophy, volunteered his time to share with students why questioning and wondering was so important to him. It seems students were listening as they drafted their own wondering questions.
Recently in 5/6A we have been investigating fractions, we’ve been asking questions like “What are the different parts of a fraction?” and “Why do all the parts of a fraction need to be equal?” To find out more we had a ‘cooking’ session in the staffroom, we made Fun Fruit Kababs using apple, banana and grapes. Today students in the Years 3 and 4 classes continued to share their expert knowledge on the eight multiple intelligences. Each student was involved actively as they either presented their own expert knowledge of the intelligence they had explored or listened and noted the learning of others. Students completed a giant jigsaw demonstrating their understanding and research. One of the strengths of the learning was the way in which groups collaborated in order for every student to achieve. Students were heard encouraging each other and organising their sharing so every student participated. Here's what was heard in the group ... "Do you need more time to think?" "What are some other things?" "This is how you do it ..." "Are we finished?" "What's next?" In evaluating the sessions the students said ... "I think the jigsaw was really good because we all cooperated." Seb "The best part was learning stuff about the eight intelligences." Joseph "We got to hear what everyone learned in their expert groups." Jake "We learned things that we didn't know before." Vihanga "It was good that we helped each other to keep up with their learning." Kaiyan "I liked it because we all got together and know things we didn't know before." Walid Everyone agreed that they enjoyed learning from each other during the exercise. |
